Horse racing tips for Wednesday April 24

  • Perth – 2h20: Find the time 10/3 (1pt), 2.55: El Elephant 5/2 (1.5pts), 3.55: Aiming Crete 13/8 (1.5pts)
  • Ludlow – 2:00 p.m.: Daddy long legs (2pts)
  • Uttoxeter – 5:35 p.m.: Hudson De Grugy (1pt), 6.10: Cloud Dancer (1pt)

Find the time

Hindered by a fall on the third start over obstacles, which was his second attempt at this distance, but he nevertheless placed well in fourth behind subsequent winners Cruz Control and Cerendipity.

Findthetime was last seen in January winning by 71 lengths at Halfway House, but was essentially awarded victory after Champ De Gane pulled up and Gardener knocked down his rider.

He was favorite but didn’t live up to that reputation as he didn’t jump with as much ease – however, he hasn’t been seen since and should be plenty fresh for new trainer Stuart Coltherd.

The elephant

It’s been somewhat frustrating coming back with real potential and promise on the line, but the mare has failed to win in four of her six starts this season.

She was pushed down in the weights before winning nicely at Ayr after showing she was capable of doing better in rated and rated company.

Including a close fifth at Cheltenham in October 2023 behind Encanto Bruno.

Most read in horse racing

She returned to a Newbury listed company last month and was doing so well before she fell and as a result gained another 2lbs, she should finally get the next win to add to her promising career.

However, this is her first attempt at 3m, but it could be just what she needs on a course where she has won before.

Apple away

This mare was pushed back in weight to make her very dangerous when she reappears.

The mare was just second to Gray Dawning in Grade 2 company in January before running well into third behind Henry’s Friend at Ascot in another Grade 2 company – before weakening at the Cheltenham Festival.

But most importantly, she is now 6lbs lighter than when she won at Leicester and placed in two Tier 2s.

Capable of doing better than what has been seen so far and is certainly better than her rating suggests with superior form also on this type of trip.

Viewfinder Ridge

Announced last month as a 2-point shot at Newbury in a Class 2 handicap chase, which was ultimately won by the ever-improving Heltenham.

He played a dominant role leading from the front to the final fence and should be ideal to follow again going downhill.

The nine-year-old was keen to win at Newbury as he was not disgraced in defeat in his last three appearances, falling to in-form yard improver Dan Skelton at Sandown in February and then by chance at again last time. .

He fell at Wetherby in a Class 2 and still hasn’t been knocked out in the weights by the handicapper, so he should have a good run and on good to soft he could well come back.

He opts for 2m again, which seems like the best route to take given how he dropped out of competition last time and can remain in a leading role dictating the pace from the front.

Daddy long legs

A stylish hurdler from the Willie Mullins yard looking to win this fairly weak competition for £4,000 in aid towards his British Champion Trainer title.

But also to see how the five-year-old behaves against lower-rated opposition after having tasted defeat during his last two obstacles, in the company of first years.

The gelding was 28 lengths behind Ballyburn in February in the Derby Sale Novice Hurdle after stopping in December in the Paddy Power Future Champions Novice Hurdle against Caldwell Potter.

It should go much better now, after a bit of a break and with Mr PW Mullins on board to help, against lower rated opposition.

Blueberry Wine is his only other opponent with a given rating, and that’s only 106 compared to his 140.

Hudson De Grugy

The reintroduction of the visor seemed to help Hudson De Grugy last time and his return to 3m should be ideal as he is 4lbs lighter than when he last raced this distance.

He fell at Sandown in February the last time he faced the 3m course – but his speed behind Jet Plane, who has since won again, puts him first for being out of the winners’ enclosure for far too long.

The terrain is currently heavy and he can handle these tough conditions, although they could end up being soft by the time this race starts, which is also ideal.

Hauraki Gulf also has a great chance after being out for just over a month since he was disappointing here in a Grade 2 novice contest.

But before that he had broken barriers very well, including winning his pursuit debut in January, a decent third and another victory at Leicester.

Cloud Dancer

Another Gary Moore trained horse that could be a winner in waiting.

The gray gelding has lost 8 pounds in total since his March race which saw him finish a good third behind Jetronic.

Before finishing second to Phantomofthepoints at Chepstow in a Class 4 novice hurdle where he carried much more than the winners.

But his third behind Doddiethegreat bodes well and looks ideally weighted if he returns to better, earlier form.
