Kate Middleton back on her feet, to attend Wimbledon on Sunday

The Princess of Wales will make her second public appearance of the year on Sunday at the men’s final of the Wimbledon tennis championships.

Princess Catherine’s spectacular return to the Royal Box on Centre Court looks set to inject a dose of glamour, excitement and positivity into the final day of the world-famous tournament.

She probably won’t be accompanied by her husband.

In an encouraging sign that her cancer treatment is progressing well, Kensington Palace has confirmed her attendance on Saturday, although she will not attend the women’s singles final today.

Whether Catherine would present the trophy at British tennis’ biggest event has been the subject of much speculation since she made an unexpected appearance at the King’s birthday parade, known as Trooping the Colour, in June.

At the time, Catherine said she had “good days and bad days”, but added: “I hope to do some public engagements over the summer.”

A friend of Kate and William told The Daily Beast last week: “It’s no secret that she would love to be there, but when you’re going through chemotherapy, as she herself has said, there are good days and bad days. It all depends on the timing of the treatments. She was able to attend Trooping the Colour, so if she can come to Wimbledon, she will.”

Catherine has only been seen in public once this year, but she posted a previously unseen video in March revealing she had cancer, saying: “So my medical team advised me to have preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”

A friend of the couple told The Daily Beast on Saturday after hearing the news: “This is fantastic news and a great omen. This is exactly what everyone has been praying for.”
