Kasabian star Serge Pizzorno opens up to Geoff Shreeves about playing for Nottingham Forest youth team, got ‘carried away’ supporting his beloved Leicester – and his screamer at Soccer Aid 2012

It is widely regarded as the greatest goal ever scored by a celebrity on Soccer AM.

Live on the Sky Sports morning show, Kasabian star Serge Pizzorno tossed the ball before throwing it into a small hoop – while wearing a pair of periwinkles.

But the 43-year-old musician admitted his incredible talent – which has been viewed millions of times online – isn’t as impressive as everyone thinks.

Speaking to Geoff Shreeves on his Football, Music and Me podcast, Serge revealed that he didn’t actually wear winklepickers and had in fact deliberately worn more sensible footwear – a pair of Clarks desert boots.

He said: “We had played in Paris the night before and had a few beers in the back of the tour bus.”

Kasabian took an overnight trip to London to film the Sky Sports show, but that didn’t stop the group from getting stuck on the bus.

They were told, “Oh, you have to be there around 7 a.m..” We were like, “S***, might as well, you know…” So we definitely had a few beers. »

“And at that point I said, ‘I’m just going to try something tomorrow.’ You have to try something.

“I had Clark’s desert boots, because I purposely knew they were the coolest shoes you could wear without looking desperate.

“You don’t want to come with Copa Mundials (football shoes), you know what I mean? You can’t sound too serious about it.

“I’m probably going to kill the dreams of a lot of people out there, but I wasn’t wearing Winklepickers… Every time I look at him I’m like, ‘How did no one notice they aren’t Winklepickers?’

The star was on the books of Nottingham Forest between the ages of 10 and 13, when all he wanted to do was play for his beloved Leicester City.

He told Geoff: “I wore my Leicester socks under my Forest kit, just to know I wasn’t too disloyal.

“Forest were a decent team at the time. You know, they were in the Premier League.

“I remember playing for Forest one night, I scored, I took it around someone and I marked it, a toe kick, and the manager went crazy like shouting: You don’t… That’s not how you…” I thought, “I scored, didn’t I?

“I was looking at Bebeto and Romario, you know what I mean, I was kind of coming from that angle. And then he dragged me, I was yelled at. I remember thinking at the time, “This probably isn’t for me.” “I definitely looked at football more as a kind of entertainment, and I loved it.

“They would have called me a luxury player, I think. A bit like Berbatov. I wasn’t quite up to it.

Serge, whose band this week released a new summer anthem called Coming Back To Me For Good, has been a loyal Leicester supporter all his life and admits he got carried away during a few games at the outside.

He said: “We played Chelsea (away) in the cup. We were in the first division and we were leading 2-0 or maybe 2-1. We ended up losing 4-2, but I was with all my friends and I had a few beers, a few too many beers.

“And I ended up stealing the Christmas tree from the reception at Chelsea.” So I was running down the King’s Road with a tree and I could hear the Christmas candle flickering and then like the stewards were tapping me like, “Oh mate, you’ve got our Christmas tree.”

“And I was like, ‘Oh sorry mate. “But it’s just that thing about football where when you go for it, you kind of lose your mind, don’t you?

Serge also scored a goal at Soccer Aid in 2012, when he chipped David Seaman at Old Trafford during a celebrity charity soccer match.

He recalls: “So I’m on the left side of Old Trafford, 80,000, full and my back is not in the best condition.” So Freddie Ljungberg got the ball and played it until the end.

“I held my race, I stayed away, I played it until the end. Now I don’t remember the defender, but the defender is fast. It could have been Des Walker

“My back is in bad shape, so I don’t go around it. As soon as the ball leaves Ljungberg’s foot, I say, “I’m going to hit that because I can’t get around it.”

“And I noticed David Seaman was just a little bit out of line. You know, you have in mind what you want to do. But it never works. But this time I hit him, and I hit him slowly. I thought, “You know what, it’s in!” And it hit the net.

“I entered another dimension. The adrenaline, bang, hit me. So I turn around, and then there was Clarence Seedorf, Freddie Ljungberg, Mike Myers, then Will Ferrell. And I was like, “Does this get any weirder?”
