Jamie Redknapp has sounded the alarm over the dismal first half of Manchester United’s defense against Bournemouth, highlighting how “easy” it was for the Cherries to break through the gaps in the Red Devils’ backline.
United’s defense looked in disarray in the opening 45 minutes, with Willy Kambwala and Diogo Dalot leaving large gaps in their defense which Bournmouth happily exploited.
Dominic Solanke was one of the beneficiaries of the Red Devils’ lack of concentration, bringing down Kambwala before unleashing a long-range shot which slipped past Andre Onana into the bottom left corner.
Bruno Fernandes hit back from close range to level the scores, but Bournemouth continued to look lively in attack. Marcos Senesi advanced and found Justin Kluivert in acres of space between Dalot and Kambwala on the left side of the box, before firing his shot inside the near post to put the hosts ahead 2- 1.
In his analysis of the goal, Redknapp believed Bournemouth were targeting United’s weaknesses on the left side of the pitch.

“It’s so easy and why not!” » the former Liverpool player told Sky Sports.
“Kambwala gets caught and he points and tries to organize things. If you’re not sure, you need to go and mark it.
“The ball is played to Kluivert, cuts inside and hits a similar shot to Solanke, fierce into that near post and it’s so hard to stop and he’s been so dangerous, but someone just has to come out and get it back.”
Despite their defensive weaknesses, United were handed a lifeline after Fernandes equalized once again, this time from the penalty spot.
In a bid to turn things around, Erik ten Hag brought off Alejandro Garnacho at half-time and Redknapp gave a critical assessment of the Argentine’s performance.

He also blasted Alejandro Garnacho’s poor first-half performance, saying he was “lethargic”.
“Garnacho was poor in that first half, he kept giving the ball away. He looked lethargic and poor,” he added.
“I understand that one. But the biggest problem is the amount of time they spend winning the ball back, being pressed in the first half and Bournemouth just running at will at their back four and getting shots.
“This must be Ten Hag’s biggest worry. If you continue to let teams shoot on goal, you will continue to concede goals.
