I’m Refreshing My Summer Wardrobe With These Sweat-Wicking Tenniscore Basics

If you’ve seen the hottest movie of the year, Challengers, and you suddenly wanted to change your entire wardrobe in an effort to dress like Zendaya, you’re not alone. I’m suddenly all-in for tenniscore; tennis skirts and dresses to make people think I’m way sportier than I actually am, it’s totally my summer 2024 vibe – and I think you’ll be obsessed too.

If you’re not familiar with tenniscore, it’s very simple. As is the case with the ever-popular balletcore trend, which is inspired by ballet and ballerinas, tenniscore is all about court-inspired basics that can be worn while playing tennis, but also in real life. The details that are essential to tennis outfits, like pleats, stripes, sneakers and more, are all a breeze when it comes to tenniscore, and I’m in the process of overhauling my entire guard -dress to include the aforementioned essentials: the tennis racket. not included. Sorry not sorry.

What I love most about tennis-focused fashion is that it’s an easy way to look put-together while remaining comfortable while playing. shopping or meeting a friend, and all this without needing to put on a “real outfit”. Think: pleated skirts, stretchy dresses, collared tops and striped sweaters that are chic, comfortable and sweat-resistant. If you live in New York, you know that summer can be scorching, so sweat-wicking gear is a no-brainer. But I totally understand if you don’t always want to wear your leggings — that’s where preppy tenniscore styles come in, literally.

So if you’re looking for a cute outfit that gives the illusion of having some serious skills on the field (even if you don’t!), look no further than some of my essentials tennis-inspired favorites, right in front of you.

FP Movement Easy Does he get dressed

FP Movement

Although this FP Movement dress is technically designed for working out, as it’s a polyester and spandex blend, you can easily wear it this summer without ever breaking a sweat. It features a drawstring waist, which elevates it above some other tennis dresses on the market, and an open back detail, allowing you to really feel the rain on your skin and release your inhibitions. I’m picturing this with some pretty metallic Mary Janes for an unexpected outfit that’s sure to get you endless compliments.

Grand Slam Alo Yoga tennis skirt

Alo

A good tennis skirt will take you to the court, a sexy girl’s walk with a friend and even to the club when paired with the straight top. I love the pleats on this one, and there are built-in shorts so you can even store your tennis ball; if you’re going into town, you can put your keys, your ID, your wand in there – I’m not judging.

Reformation Francesco Cotton polo shirt

Reformation

Not only is this Reformation polo shirt super comfortable, but it also adds the perfect touch of tennis player chic to any outfit. Dare I suggest carrying it on your shoulders? I’m also obsessed with the matching pleated mini skirt. BRB, I’m buying this whole outfit.

Staud Court Cross-Court two-tone mini dress

Saks Fifth Avenue

While this Staud dress may be a bit of a splurge, imagine how cute you’d look perched in the stands at Wimbledon or the US Open. It’s super comfortable and comes in two shades: green and white and black and white.
