Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI’s longtime chief scientist and one of its co-founders, has left the company.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI announcement the news in a post from X Tuesday evening.

“It’s very sad for me; Ilya is undoubtedly one of the greatest minds of our generation, a beacon in our field, and a dear friend,” Altman wrote. “OpenAI wouldn’t be what it is without him. Even though he has something personally significant that he will be working on, I will be forever grateful to him for what he has done here and am committed to finishing the mission we started together.
