The Houston Astros are mourning the death of Ronny Garcia, who died Saturday in a car accident in the Dominican Republic at the age of 24.

The former Astros prospect died in a multi-motorcycle crash that also killed his father and another person.

Garcia, a pitcher, was in the Astros’ minor league system from 2017-2023.

Garcia had signed with the York Revolution, an independent league team based in southern Pennsylvania, for the 2024 season.

“He’ll be a young bullpen arm for us,” Revolution manager Rick Forney said when Garcia signed with the team on ABC 27 in York.

Garcia died Saturday in a motorcycle accident in the Dominican Republic at the age of 24.

“I’m excited for him. He has very good career numbers. He’s an intriguing young pitcher. I hope I can develop him into more than just a one-inning guy, maybe a sixth- or seventh-inning bridge type guy. I’m excited to see him,” Forney continued.

Garcia was a native of Samana, Dominican Republic and played in the country’s summer league affiliates before coming to the United States in 2021.

Garcia played in the Florida Complex League and for the Class A Fayetteville (North Carolina) Woodpeckers in 2021.

The relief pitcher played for the same two teams in 2022.

Garcia returned to Fayetteville for one game before being promoted to High-A Asheville Tourists last year.
