Harvey Elliott credited Jurgen Klopp for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s magical free-kick that sparked Liverpool’s 3-1 win at Fulham

Harvey Elliott should get much of the credit for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s sublime free-kick in Liverpool’s win over Fulham after confounding the home side’s defensive wall, according to boss Jurgen Klopp.

Alexander-Arnold scored a decisive goal to open the scoring for Liverpool, before Timothy Castagne equalized shortly before half-time. The Reds ended a four-game wait for a goal from open play as Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota secured victory after the break.

And Klopp says Elliott sowed doubt in the minds of Fulham defenders when he tried to place a free-kick under the wall minutes before Alexander-Arnold’s goal.

“Harvey has 10 or 15 percent of the goal because we analyzed Fulham and saw the wall blowing up, so we told Harvey to try to get under it,” said Klopp, who has just five games left to play against Liverpool.

“They obviously weren’t really jumping, just a little, so Harvey couldn’t go all the way. The crowd was laughing. But it’s pretty sure, maybe next time the wall won’t jump as high as ‘they usually do.

Alexander-Arnold took advantage and placed a sumptuous shot over the wall. The full-back added: “The second (free kick) was always going to be mine. We did our analysis yesterday, we saw they were jumping quite a bit. Harvey had the right idea, but not the execution.

“The technique I use generates power itself. I just try to guide him and make it difficult for the goalkeeper. You have one chance in a game to execute it for the team. Practice, practice, practice and it pays off on days like today.

“It’s going to be a tough week with two more away games (Everton and West Ham), but we are confident that if we can replicate what we did today we should be able to get results. We need to expect five wins from five now to have any chance of winning silverware in a few weeks’ time.
