Harry Kane could be managed by ‘hothead’ Premier League boss at Bayern Munich in what could be recipe for disaster

Roberto De Zerbi is a candidate for the Bayern Munich job, but a German football expert says the ‘hothead’ is not a good choice.

Constantin Eckner was a guest on White & Jordan on Tuesday to discuss Bayern’s interest in the Brighton boss ahead of a possible move at the end of the season.

Bayern are looking for a new manager with the resignation of Thomas Tuchel, while Xabi Alonso has decided to entrust his future to Bayer Levekusen.

The German giants are now looking elsewhere, with Eckner confirming De Zerbi is on their list of potential targets to lead a team including Harry Kane.

Asked if the Italian was the favourite, Eckner told talkSPORT: “He is one of three candidates and has emerged as someone who could become the next Bayern manager, who knows?

“Bayern were so focused on Xabi Alonso not long ago, but once they learned he would stay at Bayer Leverkusen, they moved away and looked for alternatives.

“One of the alternatives on a fairly short list is Roberto De Zerbi. The other two names discussed internally are Ralf Rangnick, formerly of Manchester United, who currently manages the Austrian national team and (Germany boss) Julian Nagelsmann, who was sacked by Bayern last year.

“He will be out of contract after the Euros and there have been discussions that he might be asked to come back because his dismissal was premature and I think that is what Bayern realize.”

Eckner continued: “Bayern have already researched whether De Zerbi would be available, to inquire about the buyout clause in De Zerbi’s contract and to see if it could be triggered.”

Asked if he thought De Zerbi would be a good candidate, Eckner warned the Allianz Arena team against appointing him.

The reporter said: “No, that wouldn’t be the case. Not because of his tactical sense, but because of his management of men – because he is a bit of a hothead.

“He can incite people, he can provoke people and get on bad terms with people a few times lately.

“Think about De Zerbi and then all the problems happening at Bayern internally – I don’t know if that would be the best solution, to be honest.

“I could see De Zerbi throwing his hands up after three months and thinking ‘I’m done here.'”

In response to the link, Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony said: “It does (surprises me). He had more clubs than Tiger Woods.

“I think he needs to calm down. They played some great football and did well, but Tony Bloom won’t lose a moment’s sleep over it.

“He loses the best players, replaces them and makes millions, so I could imagine him sitting with this guy and saying, ‘Go back to your box, you have a long-term contract, so what should we talk about? ‘

“Calm down and stop drinking your own Kool-Aid until you actually do something.”

“You’re currently in the top ten and playing decent football, but don’t get ahead and that’s the reality.

“Although he has done well in the Premier League in recent years, he has been a bit nomadic – he has been everywhere but never had great success.

“Maybe he is perfect for the job at Bayern – he would come in, they would support him and he could win trophies for the first time in his career.”
