Gary Lineker reveals MOTD moment where he and Micah Richards were dying laughing at Martin Keown that viewers will have missed

Gary Lineker and Micah Richards were angry during Saturday’s Match of the Day, but even the most attentive fans didn’t notice..

The popular duo were on duty for the hit BBC show and were joined by Martin Keown, with Wayne Rooney forced to withdraw due to a back injury.

Keown, who is a regular on talkSPORT, is one of football’s top pundits at the moment and clearly takes great pride in ensuring his analysis of players and key figures is accurate.

Tasked with analyzing Nottingham Forest’s game against Wolves on Saturday night, Keown was keen to ensure he discussed Nuno Espirito Santo accurately, leading to a hilarious off-camera moment.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker said: “We laughed last night.

“Martin is wonderful, I love him immensely and he’s great to work with, but he gets a little nervous about pronouncing different names.

“He often tends to ask you how you pronounce everyone’s name, including Nuno (Espirito Santo).

“There was a moment in the series that was brilliant. Just before his analysis, he turns to Micah and says: “It’s Nuno, isn’t it?” Nu-no? Micah walked away, “yes, of course!”

“Then Micah and I were bodybuilding. Martin was doing his analysis over the photos and Micah and I couldn’t look at each other because we were both gone.

“No one at home would have known because we were out of sight, but Micah must have looked completely the other way – he was looking one way and I must have looked completely the other way, oddly enough it was towards the monitor that had The Masters on, but that’s not the point.

“We were both absolutely hysterical and luckily it was a long analysis, so in the end we were able to pull ourselves together.”

Laughing, Shearer replied: “What else could it be other than Nuno? to which Lineker replied: “That’s exactly the point.

“Could it have been ‘Nun-no?!’ But it was so funny. I was wondering if you were going to come back from this, Micah.

Richards then said: “Honestly, I was gone.

“You are absolutely right, fortunately the analysis was lengthy and for those who don’t know, there are several cameras in the studio and you might have one camera that shows all three of us, one that shows Gary when he reads a link or asks a question but fortunately, it came from a backstroke then a single from Martin.

“If it was a photo of the three of us I would have been in big trouble because if people saw me laughing we would have had to respond to it – it was crazy.”
