Former Chelsea boss Graham Potter has spoken to Ajax about return to management but Manchester United still keen

Graham Potter has held talks with Ajax to become their new manager, according to talkSPORT.

Potter, also admired by new Manchester United minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is ready to return to work a year after being sacked by Chelsea.

The 48-year-old really impressed at Brighton for three years and Chelsea hired him to replace Thomas Tuchel in September 2022.

However, he was sacked after just seven months in charge of Ajax, although he could be set to return to Ajax management.

The 36-time Dutch champions have had a poor season and sit sixth in the Eredivisie after a 6-0 defeat to rivals Feyenoord.

John van ‘t Schip is currently acting as interim manager until the end of the season, with only five games remaining.

Potter could therefore be the man to take over permanently this summer as Ajax eye a return to their dominance.

It’s been just over a year since he was sacked by Chelsea, leaving the club when they were in 11th place in the Premier League.

He guided the club to the Champions League quarter-finals, but both matches took place after his dismissal, with club legend Frank Lampard in the dugout as interim boss.

Potter faced a great team amid the Blues’ huge spending in January and came away with 12 wins to his name.
