Forgotten Premier League player looking for new club on LinkedIn after leaving Spanish fifth division

But even after spending three years playing in Turkey, scoring on his England debut and lining out for Liverpool and QPR, Caulker’s latest news could be his biggest shock yet.

The 32-year-old took to job search platform LinkedIn to reveal he is on the lookout for a new club, after ending his time at Spanish fifth tier Malaga City.

Caulker had joined the team as player-manager earlier this year and stated his intention to continue to pursue his coaching ambitions, while continuing to play, in his next chapter.

He wrote in a post on the site: “LinkedIn family, please work some magic…

“I am looking for a new team before the 2024/2025 season. Preferably as a coach, but I am always open to playing.

“While I search for a suitable option, I am handling 1-2-1 coaching, mentoring and public speaking.”

The former Spurs player also attached a photo of himself shaking hands with former England manager Roy Hodgson, who gave the defender his one and only senior international call-up in 2012.

Caulker was not short of responses to his post, with suggestions for where he might go next, ranging from the Australian top flight to the Indian Super League, and even Cornish side Bude Town. 10th rank.

And given the former Swansea City centre-back has already traveled far and wide to play the game, it is likely he will consider all of these possibilities.

After making 123 Premier League appearances, including spells at South Wales rivals Cardiff and Swansea, as well as Liverpool and Southampton, Caulker moved north to Scottish Premiership side Dundee , in 2018.

This marked the start of a five-year spell away from England, followed by a move to Turkish Super Lig club Alanyaspor in 2019.

The former Three Lions player went on to play for three other teams in the country, including giants Fenerbahce, and switched international allegiances to make his Sierra Leone debut in 2022.

Having only returned to the UK for a short spell with Wigan Athletic in 2023, before heading abroad again to join Malaga, Caulker’s next move is likely to be as unpredictable as the rest of his career so far.
