However, Ten Hag believes he will still be in charge at Old Trafford, despite having received no public assurances over his future from new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

The Dutchman is reluctant to enter into formal talks with Bayern until his position at Old Trafford is clarified.

The injury-hit Red Devils have slipped to eighth in the Premier League table ahead of Monday’s clash at Crystal Palace, live on talkSPORT.

Ten Hag joined Man United from Dutch club Ajax in the summer of 2022 and his tenure with the 13-time Premier League winners has seen many ups and downs.

His first season was a mixed success as he returned the club to the Champions League, while winning the Carabao Cup and reaching the FA Cup final.

However, this season has presented many challenges, with Man United finishing last in their Champions League group and seeing their Carabao Cup defense end in a 3-0 home defeat to Newcastle.

And their league form has been a huge cause for concern, with Man United currently eighth in the Premier League and unable to finish in the top four.

Failing to get European football is a risk, with Newcastle, Chelsea and Tottenham all better placed to get Europa or Conference League football ahead of them.

As well as sketchy form on the pitch, there have been some bad headlines with Ten Hag having a high-profile spat with £73million signing Jadon Sancho, who is doing a great job rebuilding his career on loan at former club Borussia Dortmund.

Meanwhile, minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has only hinted publicly that Ten Hag will be manager next season.

The man Ten Hag could replace Tuchel has been linked with his current job.

Tuchel has experience in the Premier League having managed Chelsea for 19 months between January 2021 and September 2022, a period which saw the Blues win the Champions League.
