Emotional friends mourn loss of Glenview teen in fatal crash – NBC Chicago

Emotional friends gathered to pay tribute and share memories of Marko Niketic, 17, killed overnight in the suburb of Glenview.

Police continue to investigate the crash, which left three other people hospitalized and a community numbed by shock after the horrific tragedy.

“The fact that his life ended yesterday is a shame,” said Preston Shute, a friend of Marko’s. “He’s one of those people where you met him, and he shines.”

Preston was one of dozens of classmates and friends who came to the crash site Monday, many of whom were stunned and broken by the late-night crash.

They describe a teenager with varied interests and ambitions, including stock market and entrepreneurship plans.

“He really loved day trading,” Preston said. “He was a stock trader and he had a beauty business with my friend that he was planning to start this summer. He had a lot of things ahead of him.

Glenview police said Marko and several passengers were riding in a silver Mercedes that was involved in a collision with a Ford Mustang. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and came to rest on the other side of a street after hitting a wooden fence.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident and say three other people remain in hospital. Although the driver of the Mustang was expected to be OK, the two passengers in the vehicles were in critical condition, according to authorities.

Glenbrook High School offers counseling and support services to students, and friends are grappling with the enormity of their loss.

“I can’t really understand this right now because he’s my best friend, but at the same time I like to share the information, because I think his life has to be justified in some sense,” said Preston said.
