Downey Jr. ‘open-minded’ about MCU return

wonder

Actor Robert Downey Jr. left the role of Tony Stark/Iron Man five years ago with the release of “Avengers: Endgame” and now, in a new interview with fellow actress Jodie Foster, he says he’s more willing than ever to return to this role. .

Foster and Downey Jr. find themselves in similar positions when they sat down for Variety’s Actors on Actors series. Both are veteran actors with long careers and a colorful relationship with Hollywood.

Both were also nominated for Oscars for supporting roles in films last year, with Downey Jr. winning his, and both are coming off recently acclaimed work in an HBO series this year (“True Detective: Night Country”, “The Sympathizer”).

When asked by Foster about the possibility of reprising the role of Tony Stark, he replied:

“It’s just crazy in my DNA. Probably the most like me character I’ve ever played, even though he’s way cooler than me. I became surprisingly open-minded to the idea.

This follows recent comments from actor Jeremy Renner, who indicated that he would be open to returning to the MCU as long as the storyline is good and the reason for everyone’s return makes sense.

This all seems to be a tease for “Avengers: Secret Wars,” an upcoming film expected later this decade that would combine multiversal variants of characters we know.
