‘Don’t s*** on MLS’ – Travis Kelce disagrees with brother Jason’s controversial Lionel Messi-Michael Jordan analogy

Jason and Travis Kelce are at odds when it comes to Lionel Messi’s stay at Inter Miami.

The Argentine World Cup-winning star joined MLS in 2023 where he immediately established himself as the best player in the league.

Messi, 36, is still playing at a high level and contributing many goals and assists, but Jason believes that is incomparable with his time in Europe and on international duty.

“I’ll tell you, Messi played in Kansas City last weekend,” Travis said on a recent episode of the NFL Brothers’ award-winning podcast “New Heights.”

“He actually starred in Arrowhead.”

“It’s not the same being in MLS,” the legendary Eagles center responded as Travis said, “don’t fuck up in MLS.”

“I don’t fuck up in MLS,” Jason replied.

“I say it’s not international football. When you think about football, I know there are all these wonderful clubs overseas, there’s MLS, I think about the World Cup, it’s That’s all I’m saying.

“It’s the international game and then everything else.

“I didn’t say I wouldn’t watch it (MLS). I just said it wasn’t the same level.”

Jason reiterated his stance that Major League Soccer is not on the same level as Leo’s previous competitions.

He compared Messi’s situation in Florida to watching Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan play golf.

Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes meets the Inter Miami team, including Lionel Messi, while wearing a Sporting Kansas City MLS jersey.

“Seeing Messi play in Miami is not the same as when he played in Barcelona or when he was on the world stage at the World Cup. That’s all I’m saying, it’s not the same thing,” Jason continued.

“Seeing Michael Jordan on the golf course is not the same as seeing Jordan in a Bulls uniform. You’re seeing a person on the biggest stage possible, with the greatest team in history. It’s the best soccer player in the World Cup It’s different than seeing Lionel Messi tear up in Kansas City, just saying.

Travis continued to defend Messi’s time in MLS, comparing it to Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s time with the LA Galaxy between 2018-2020.

“Dude, it’s the same, it’s Lionel Messi,” Travis said.

“It was the same as when Ibrahimovic went crazy in Los Angeles. It’s awesome, it’s electric. He made MLS fun to watch.”

“I’m not saying it’s not good for MLS, I’m not saying it’s not great, I’m saying it’s not as good,” Jason responded.

“I’m not saying it’s bad that he plays in Miami, it’s great for MLS, it’s great for American football.

“I’m just saying that it’s nowhere near the moment when he scores a goal for Argentina and the whole country bursts into joy and cheers because that means more to Argentina than any what other sport on the planet.”

The official New Heights account posted a clip of the conversation on Instagram and fans seemed to agree with Jason’s analogy.

“Jason wins this argument,” one fan said.

“As an Argentinian I agree 100% with Jason,” wrote another.

“It’s like watching Jordan on the Wizards instead of the Bulls,” replied a third.

Others joked that Messi’s time at Inter Miami was like Jason’s time at WrestleMania.

“Seeing Jason appear at WrestleMania is not the same as seeing Jason at the Super Bowl,” someone pointed out.

Messi made an immediate impact on the Herons when he joined the franchise last year

They won the inaugural Coupe des Ligues – the club’s first trophy – and reached the final of the US Open Cup.

This season, the star has five goals and five assists for the high-flying Herons.

One of those goals came in a 3-2 win over Sporting KC in front of Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes – who met Messi before the game.

Inter Miami is on track to make the MLS playoffs and lead the Eastern Conference with 18 points from ten games.
