Conor McGregor changes prediction between Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier in UFC 302 raw tweetstorm

Conor McGregor is not letting go of his feud with Dustin Poirier despite three years having passed since their controversial trilogy.

The Irishman knocked out his rival the first time they faced each other in 2014, and the two men were remarkably friendly before their first rematch in early 2021. But by time for the trilogy that summer, things had gone wrong. and it has remained that way ever since.

McGregor was knocked out in their UFC 257 rematch. But he and the fans watching were left without a satisfying conclusion when their fight at UFC 264 was stopped after one round when he broke the leg, leading to a long absence from the octagon.

Of course, Dustin Poirier’s attention will be elsewhere than that of Conor McGregor as he prepares for his third chance to win undisputed lightweight gold against Islam Makhachev this weekend. “The Diamond” will headline UFC 302, and the promotion revealed he will receive a custom outfit for the occasion.

Usually, UFC fighters are forced to wear a strict fight kit that adheres to regimented colors and patterns. But on occasion, big names have been allowed to wear more extravagant designs, with Poirier allowed to wear floral shorts for his big night out.

But McGregor was unimpressed, comparing his rival to a feminine hygiene product in a series of angry tweets. “Tampax pants,” he wrote in one, before sharing a pair of photos of tampons alongside Poirier with the caption “Perfect for a bloody p****.”

Conor McGregor backs Islam Makhachev to submit Dustin Poirier in one round

The Irishman is not a big fan of Islam Makhachev or his team, which includes his long-time rival Khabib Nurmagomedov. But he believes the wrestling expert will be able to get the job done quickly and put an end to Poirier’s true Rocky story.

McGregor was in the middle of mocking Makhachev over an unsubstantiated internet rumor that he was battling a staph infection when he made his pre-fight prediction. The Russian is regularly the subject of pre-fight rumors, but has so far not indicated in any way that he is suffering from an infection.

But McGregor, after seeing a tweet theorizing about the champion’s condition, wrote on social media: “This team is infested, make no mistake. Rub the balls. Whatever you like, I guess. He still replaces Dustin in the first.

However, McGregor hasn’t always been so optimistic about the lightweight champion’s chances. Last week he took part in a Kick stream with Duelbits where he theorized about how his old rival could get the job done in what would be a huge upset.

“You know, I think Dustin can do it,” McGregor told fans when asked for his thoughts on headlining the pay-per-view. “I think Dustin does it, knocks him out.

“I think the things Makhachev does wrong, the things he’s not good at? He fumbles, usually at first, and comes across shots. He was knocked out by that back hook from a southpaw before entering the UFC.

“This is one of Dustin’s best shots! If Dustin ever wants to do it, this will be his time. Clearly, Dustin is also doing things poorly, which fuels Makhachev’s strengths. But it’s all to play for, there is no clear favorite.

“Look at Dustin’s last fight, he got beat up by Benoit Saint-Denis and he stayed with it and then caught him. He got back to his feet and took a shot, so it was a great experience for this fight and if there’s ever a chance for him to do it, this will be it.
