Busiest Airports in the World: Ranking

International travel is almost back to pre-pandemic levels, according to the just-released list of the world’s busiest airports in 2023.

The increase in air travel marks a recovery to 93.8% of 2019 levels before the world shut down, according to preliminary data released by the Airports Council International (ACI), a trade association that includes 2,600 airports worldwide .

Increased travel to airports in Asia and the Middle East was one of the key trends emerging from the data, with Dubai International Airport rising from the fifth to the second busiest airport in the world.

Airports in India, Japan and Turkey also feature in the top 10 and are among those that have grown the most in terms of annual passenger growth.

As the world’s largest domestic flight market, U.S. airports continue to make up five of the world’s busiest airports, with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport maintaining its No. 1 position.

Despite difficult global economic conditions, there was “a growing trend toward travel,” Luis Felipe de Oliveira, global director general of ACI, said in a press release.

“Airports continue to demonstrate their resilience and adaptability in the face of challenges posed by the ever-changing global travel landscape,” Oliveira said.

Here’s a look at the 10 busiest airports in the world.
