The Bruins are certainly no strangers to overtime this season, but they kept their winning streak going Saturday night.

An unlikely hero scored the game-winner to keep Boston’s four-game winning streak alive at the end of the regular season.

Jesper Boqvist found himself on a partial breakaway after winning a puck battle against the boards. Moving up the middle of the ice and into the offensive zone, Boqvist had enough speed to protect the puck on his forehand and throw it over the shoulder of Florida Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky to Switch on the light.

It was Boston’s 26th overtime of the season.

Boqvist is in his fifth year in the NHL and his first with the Bruins. He’s scored just five goals all season as of Saturday, and although he was a bottom-six serviceable forward, he’s not known for the wide-ranging play he exhibited as part of extension.

Jim Montgomery wanted to see Boston maintain its intensity throughout the regular season despite clinching a playoff spot more than a week ago. A four-game winning streak with four games remaining in the regular season seems to indicate the message has been received in the locker room.

Boston will look for a fifth straight victory against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday. The Bruins beat Carolina 4-1 when the teams played Thursday.
