Bronny James, son of Lakers star LeBron James, was one of 78 players invited to the NBA Combine.

The grouping generally brings together the majority of players who will be selected in the NBA draft, although there are only 60 picks.

This year is a first: if you refuse a combined invitation, you are not eligible for the draft.

Exceptions exist, the biggest being competing for another professional team overseas in the middle of their season, as is the case for Zaccharie Risacher and Nikola Topic, who are both projected to be top-10 players.

In the latest ESPN draft, Bronny was not picked in the first round.

Bronny is also in the transfer portal and testing the NBA draft waters this month.

Bronny is also in the transfer portal and testing the NBA draft waters this month.

James, 19, has played in 25 games for USC this season, averaging just 19.4 minutes per game.

He didn’t light up the stat sheet with the Trojans, like he did at powerhouse Sierra Canyon High School. James only averaged 4.8 points per game and 2.8 rebounds per game.

Andy Enfield, Bronny’s first-year coach at USC, has since taken over at SMU and Eric Musselman is now in charge of the Trojans. In addition to testing the NBA Draft waters, James has also entered his name into the transfer portal.

LeBron James has long had a goal of playing with his son in the NBA. And with the Lakers legend turning 40 in December, there’s a small window for that to happen.

The elder James hasn’t shown many physical signs of slowing down, averaging 25.7 points last season, good enough to rank 13th in the NBA.

James will have a No. 22 season in the NBA and he has until June to make a decision on next year.

He can either opt for a $51.4 million contract, the second year of a $99 million deal he signed before this season. Or, James can become a free agent and possibly play for a fourth NBA team.

The combine will be held May 12-19 in Chicago, with the first round of the NBA Draft taking place June 26 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The second round will take place on June 27 from Manhattan.
