Brazilian Igor Severino faces UFC exit after biting opponent Andre Lima in debut

In the second round of the fight between Severino and fellow Brazilian Andre Lima, the latter shouted and signaled the referee to stop the fight.

Flyweight Igor Severino was disqualified Saturday in his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut after biting opponent Andre Lima during their Fight Night bout in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In the second round of the fight between the two Brazilians, Lima shouted and signaled the referee to stop the fight.

The 25-year-old raised his left arm to show the bite mark and officials reviewed the footage before making the decision to disqualify Severino.

UFC president Dana White later told combat sports site keviniole.com that Severino would be cut from the UFC.

“We fought well, and then at one point, for some reason, he decided to bite me,” Lima, through a translator, told reporters after the fight.

“I went downstairs and, when I got up, I screamed because I felt a sharp pain. At first I thought it was closure. I didn’t think he could have bitten me, especially considering the way the fight was going.

Later Saturday, Lima posted a photo of himself on Instagram with a new tattoo of the bite mark, which was reposted by White with the promise of a $50,000 bonus.
