Boy, 6, struck by car, injured near Kate Sessions Park in Pacific Beach

A 6-year-old boy was struck by a slow-moving vehicle and seriously injured Saturday afternoon near Kate Sessions Park in Pacific Beach, San Diego police said.

The crash happened shortly after 4 p.m., as the boy was running across Soledad Road toward the park and was struck by a 75-year-old driver, Officer John Buttle said in a statement.

Police say the boy was standing next to his mother as she unpacked items from her parked vehicle when he spotted his father across the street. He rushed onto the roadway in front of the driver and was struck.

Doctors took the boy to the hospital to treat a broken pelvis, Buttle said. The injury is not expected to be life-threatening.

Investigators said the driver is not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and detectives with the department’s traffic division are investigating.
