Bethenny Frankel recalls ‘forcing’ herself to have sex with Jason Hoppy
Bethenny Frankel says she “forced” herself to have sex with ex-husband Jason Hoppy before their unhappy marriage ended in December 2012.
“He would tell me, ‘You’re like a block of ice,’ because I didn’t want to be intimate. I didn’t want to have sex,” the “Real Housewives of New York City” alum recalled on Tuesday’s episode of her “Just B Divorced” podcast.
Frankel, 53, said her lack of “respect” for the company led her to “not want to have sex at all.”
“I was forcing myself, gagging myself while doing this… it’s torture,” she said.
The exes married in 2010 and welcomed their daughter Bryn a few months later. Although Frankel wishes the couple had waited a little longer to conceive, she made it clear that she doesn’t “regret” having her daughter.
“I will never miss my daughter for one minute,” she told podcast listeners, “but I felt like I had been bullied, simulated drowning and flogging and on a road from which I could not escape.”
A few years after the couple welcomed Bryn, Frankel became pregnant again. However, Bravolebirthy suffered a miscarriage when she was around six weeks old.
Despite the tragic loss, Frankel admitted she was “relieved” not to bring another child into her “stifling” marriage.
“Constructively, I said, ‘I’m kind of relieved…because I don’t think this is a healthy or positive relationship,'” Frankel recalled telling Hoppy. “It felt like the first step to saying something.”
Although Frankel saw the situation as a good thing overall, Hoppy was very angry about it.
“He said to me, ‘You’re a real asshole, you know that?’” she recalled. “He moved to a hotel downtown for a few nights, and it was a total relief.”
This incident marked the beginning of the end for the couple.
Bethenny filed for divorce from Hoppy in January 2013, but the drama was far from over.
In 2017, Bravolebrity received a temporary protective order against Hoppy after he allegedly harassed and stalked her.

The couple battled in court for nearly a decade over financial matters and custody of their daughter. Frankel was ultimately awarded full legal custody and primary residential custody of Bryn.
Their “nightmare” divorce was officially finalized in January 2021. A few months later, Frankel’s boyfriend Paul Bernon popped the question with a huge sparkling diamond.
However, Frankel expressed hesitation to remarry due to her “tortuous” divorce from Hoppy.
“I don’t want to sign a contract with someone I love,” she told E! News in 2023.
“And I don’t want to plan a massive wedding for everyone and not the way we want it.”
