Bank of Japan to pay less attention to inflation rate when setting monetary policy

Reuters published this report, citing anonymous sources for its information:

  • The Bank of Japan takes a more discretionary approach in setting its policy
  • less focus on inflation… “Various data needs to be looked at, not just the inflation outlook”. such as consumption, wages and the economy in general

The BoJ will meet soon on April 25-26 and release new quarterly growth and CPI projections.

  • The BoJ is expected to forecast that inflation will remain around its 2% target until early 2027.
