Arsenal fans have expressed their fury at Son Heung-min after the striker missed a glaring one-on-one opportunity during Tottenham’s defeat to Manchester City.

City emerged 2-0 winners after a tense showdown and edged out Arsenal to return to the top of the Premier League heading into the final day of the season.

Erling Haaland scored both goals for Pep Guardiola’s champions-elect either side of Son charging into the City penalty area and towards Stefan Ortega’s goal.

Guardiola admitted he feared City’s title chances were over as Son charged into the net, but Ortega saved the visitors with a heroic, sprawling save.

That set the stage for City’s second goal, an injury-time kick, leaving the Arsenal faithful to confront the reality that their title bid appears all but shattered.

However, resignation quickly gave way to anger, after Son was filmed laughing with Guardiola on the pitch after the final whistle.

“He will never win any trophy in his life,” said one X user.

Another said Son was missed on purpose, writing: “These are facts. He had a half-open net, near the post. An easy chance for any PL (Premier League) footballer to score, but he chose the far post when the angle was reduced…’

“Also check out that laughing muppet with the captain’s armband,” another added. ‘Damn, pathetic. No wonder Ange (Postecoglou) said what he said. They don’t deserve you, Ange. You want to win. They want to lose.

“Embarrassing is not the word for it,” another account posted.

“They paid these two well,” said a fifth.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted Spurs defender Cristian Romero also sharing a moment of levity with Guardiola, who lightly punched him in the chest.

The defender seemed delighted after the brief exchange.

City look on course to win a record fourth consecutive Premier League title on Sunday. They will win the championship if they beat West Ham at the Etihad.

Arsenal, who will face Everton in the final, are two points behind second place.

On Ortega’s stunning save, Guardiola said: “He saves us, otherwise Arsenal are champions. That’s the reality. The margins are so tight. Son’s save.

‘It was incredible. One-on-one, Stefan is one of the best goalkeepers I’ve seen in my life. It’s German culture: get up, don’t get down.
