Erik ten Hag reveals how Alejandro Garnacho misbehaviour was dealt with after liking Mark Goldbridge social posts

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has revealed that Alejandro Garnacho has apologized for his recent misbehavior.

The United star recently found himself in Ten Hag’s bad books after ‘liking’ several posts criticizing his manager on social media site X, including from talkSPORT’s Mark Goldbridge, after replacing him against Bournemouth.

The Dutch coach has since said the matter has been resolved, after United described the incident as “internal”.

“Alejandro is a young player and he has to learn a lot,” Ten Hag said at a press conference on Friday. “He apologized and after that we move on.”

Garnacho was hooked at half-time against Bournemouth in a match that finished 2-2 last week and the 19-year-old showed his disdain by liking several posts on X criticizing Ten Hag.

But his apology to the boss means he has escaped Ten Hag’s strict law banning players from participating until they have expressed their apologies for any lack of discipline.

It’s the same rule that Jadon Sancho was broken with, but the England winger failed to cope with the manager, leading to him being loaned to Borussia Dortmund in January.

Marcus Rashford also infuriated his boss with a drinking session in Northern Ireland earlier this season, but apologized for his actions and was brought back into the team.

It means Garnacho will be available for Sunday’s FA Cup clash against Coventry when they meet the Championship side in the semi-final at Wembley.

And Ten Hag will hope to be able to call upon Antony and Scott McTominay, who have both returned to training after picking up injuries recently.

“Antony and Scott, I expect them to come back,” Ten Hag said.

“Scott hasn’t trained all week – partly on Wednesday – and today (Friday) I expect him to be full. Antony trained all week.

“We have a few problems. Harry (Maguire) had a little injury. He hasn’t trained this week so far, but now he’s back on the pitch, we hope he will be back on Sunday, I hope.”

As Sancho helped Dortmund qualify for the Champions League semi-finals after beating Atletico Madrid, Ten Hag was also asked about the Red Devils outcast.

“I follow international football and I follow players on loan at other clubs,” Ten Hag said.

“It was a fantastic match, Dortmund against Atletico Madrid. A great performance from Dortmund and for Jadon it’s good news, he made his contribution to Dortmund’s result.

“We know Jadon Sancho is a fantastic footballer, so it’s no surprise to us. That’s not the problem.”
