100 people rescued from major flash flood in Ruidoso

The New Mexico National Guard has rescued several people stranded by flooding that hit Ruidoso this weekend. On Saturday, members of the New Mexico National Guard rescued four elderly residents from Ruidoso. Within minutes of that rescue, the water rose 6 feet and inundated the evacuated home. As flash floods hit Ruidoso Sunday, the National Guard rescued at least 100 people from flooded areas of Ruidoso.

On Saturday, members of the New Mexico National Guard rescued four elderly residents of Ruidoso.

The National Guard said Soldiers with the 920th Engineer Company were moving heavy machinery out of a creek when 4 people reported to Soldiers that they were in distress.

Soldiers waded through rising waters to help elderly people get to higher ground and evacuate their homes.

A few minutes after the rescue, the water rose 2 meters and flooded the evacuated house.

As flash floods swept through Ruidoso on Sunday, the National Guard rescued at least 100 people from flooded areas of Ruidoso.
