Zelda 64 Recompiled: Majora’s Mask Receives Exciting New Update (Version 1.1.0)

If you haven’t seen it already, N64: Recompiled is revolutionizing the Nintendo 64 emulation scene and native PC ports.

Wiseguy, the creator of this new tool, is already rolling out updates for Zelda 64: Recompiled, and the latest version (1.1.0) is now here – adding a new (dual) analog “free camera”, motion blur upgraded to a higher level. frame rates, as well as several other features and fixes in The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask.

Other “big stuff” is apparently in the works as well, and Wiseguy is looking to improve N64: Recompiled to make it easier for other developers to get their own projects up and running:

“This update is smaller, but there are some big projects in the works, so stay tuned! I’m also working on improving N64: Recompiled itself to make it easier for developers to create their own projects, so for those using the technical side, keep your eyes peeled!”

Save data is stored separately, so don’t worry about overwriting existing progress. Here are the full patch notes:

Zelda 64 Recompilation – v1.1.0

– Added a “free” analog camera in the style of later entries in the series. Moving the right stick will allow you to freely rotate the camera, and pressing the Target button or going through an input will return to the normal camera.
– Improved motion blur effect at high frame rates through the use of a high-precision internal framebuffer (will not be enabled on machines with less than 1 GB VRAM).
– Implemented N64 noise dithering (affects motion blur scenes).
– Expanded Dawn of the X Day screen to account for faster loading times to match console schedules.
– Added a configurable scaled dead zone option to the menu.
– Added option to remap the menu button on controllers.
– Added an automatic backup system to reduce the risk of data loss if the backup is interrupted.
– Fixed Linux crash on startup when forcing selection of SDL2 video driver on X11.
– Fixed Skull Kid’s “curse” effect in very large proportions.
– Added master volume slider.

Again, this is just one part of Zelda 64: Recompiled, with the creator also working on Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

You can read more about this new tool in our previous coverage here on Nintendo Life and also on our sister site Time Extension. As mentioned before, it allows for all kinds of modern enhancements, from uncapped frame rates to ray tracing.
