A escaped Appointed Ed was spotted almost a week after escaping its owners in Tennessee, according to officials.
Using a drone, the Sheriff deputies from Rutherford County saw the zebra in a field near Christiana, about 40 miles southeast of Nashville. They continue to follow the animal with the drone, said the sheriff’s office.
“We do not want to scare the zebra”, cpl of the sheriff. According to Sean White. “We need time to calm it down.”
The zebra was initially brought to the owners’ ownership, Taylor and Laura Ford of Christiana on Friday evening. But on Saturday, the animal was seen running along a highway. He then escaped in a wooded area, said the sheriff’s office.
The Ford family initially appointed the Zebra Zeke, but while the public weighed during the search, they decided to use the name ED.
“Thanks to viral messages, media coverage and thousands of messages, he has become known as Ed Le Zebra. And now he will always be known as ED – a symbol of joy, laughter and unity,” the Fords said in a press release.
Although Ed has provoked a certain online excitement, some criticize the situation.
“Zebra escape in Tennessee is an unfortunate and completely avoidable incident,” said Angela Grimes, CEO of Born Free USA, a non -profit organization for the defense of animals. “Zebras are wild animals. They do not belong to rear courses, preserved as pets or exposed for human entertainment.”
Grimes warned that escape could cause “a state of serious stress for zebra, which can lead to increased damage for those who come into contact, including those responsible for trying to contain the zebra”.
The sheriff’s office said he had asked a veterinarian for help in any attempt to capture the animal.
