YouTube videos that do the best on television because visualization exceeds phones: Exec

  • YouTube creators are increasingly optimizing their content for television screens.
  • There was an increase in 4K videos and creators who gained income from the viewer in 2024.
  • The Youtube Kurt Wilms executive broke the most efficient content on the big screen.

YouTube is conqueror The big screen.

Television is now the dominant place for YouTube Viewing in the United States, going beyond phones, wrote CEO Neal Mohan in February.

In December, YouTube said that the benefit of television creators increased by more than 30% from one year to the next, and that the share of videos downloaded in 4K increased by more than 35%. On average, viewers monitor more than a billion hours of YouTube from their televisions.

Kurt Wilms, principal director of product management in YouTube, said that more creators were making very produced episodic content. Wilms leads the teams responsible for the efforts of “Salon” from YouTube.

“2024 was the year of the show,” Wilms told Business Insider in December. “Creators at all levels, whatever the content they make, rely on the optimization of their content for the largest screen.”

Historically, many creators thought that their audience would observe on a mobile phone and did not expect them to watch for an hour or two in one session, Wilms said. But now, creators are no longer limited to thinking about content in parts the size of a bite.

Michelle Khare, which has 4.8 million subscribers, is an example of a YouTube creator focused on episodic content. His series “Accepted Challenge” is divided into episodes and seasons. It also classifies its content on YouTube and organizes similar themed videos in reading lists, which makes it easy to watch them at the same time on a television screen.

“One of the things that happened throughout 2024 is the content that may be traditionally seen on television, such as the content of sports and children, loses on television,” said Wilms. “It took a lot of momentum.”

In YouTube Studio, creators can see their analyzes related to the way different videos have occurred on devices such as mobile, web and television.

“I suppose that for most creators over time, they will see a change of television and viewers resume,” said Wilms. “I just think that it is a global trend in the industry and a trend of vision that will happen.”

For the future, Wilms said that his team was thinking about the best activity of features that allow the public to interact more easily with creators on the big screen.

Here are 3 high -performance high content types on the YouTube application for televisions, according to Wilms:

  1. Sports climbing contents featured

A popular research term for sporting content on YouTube is “Watchalong”, which creators call videos related to comments for live events, including sports.

“You can come before a match to see the news, predictions, clips, interviews, all leading to a match,” said Wilms. “When the game takes place, you can see strengths of reaction in real time and comments on the games. Then, when the game is finished, you can see all the official strengths and the experts talk about what they thought of the game. “

NFL Sunday Ticket and NFL Redzone Subscribers can look at two to four flows depending on the starting and end program with a functionality entitled Multview.

Wilms said that next year, his team would continue to manage a functionality entitled “Watch With”, where the spectator can watch both an event and a creator on the screen.

“Watch With was born from this idea that creators are commentators,” said Wilms. “We are in the early stages of development on this functionality. But we think it will be incredible for creators and viewers.”

  1. Contents intended for children

Children’s content also works on television, Wilms said.

“I think that because one of the high-value accessories of YouTube on the big screen is the possibility of co-relining it with others, whether friends or family,” said Wilms.

Last year, Ms. Rachel’s YouTube channel, which has 12.8 million subscribers, experienced one of the highest surveillance times on the television platform, the company announced in December.

In July, YouTube combined YouTube and Youtube Kids in an application for the living room. YouTube also started to deploy last year a TVS functionality called Parent Code, which allows parents to define a PIN code to access the content focused on adults on the application.

  1. Long video podcasts

YouTube creators redefine what a podcast is.

Traditionally, a podcast was considered an audio experience only. But now many creators create video podcasts that look like a talk show format.

“With video podcasts in the living room, you can put it on your TV and watch or listen to it while you do something else by hand,” said Wilms.

Wilms said viewers generally choose to watch content on the big screen on a mobile phone or a computer for three main reasons: these are fans dedicated to a creator; They want to look at content with others; Or they are at home and look while they do something else, like cleaning or preparing dinner.
