YouTube Star Ben Schneider Walks Between Abandoned Los Angeles Skyscrapers in ‘Scary’ Stunt: Video

US News

A thrill-seeker was filmed crossing two abandoned Los Angeles skyscrapers on a tightrope – and now police are chasing him.

Ben Schneider slowly but surely crossed two graffiti-tagged towers about 500 feet off the ground while using a slackline and wearing a safety harness, according to KNBC.

The 28-year-old managed to move from one side to the other while keeping his arms outstretched for balance while a few friends filmed the thrilling moment, including using a drone.

Ben Schneider posted a YouTube video of himself walking a tightrope through both towers earlier this month. Ben Schneider/KABC

The life-threatening stunt was later posted online.

“It was very scary. I was looking down… When you get scared you start shaking and when you shake the line shakes and then you fall,” Schneider told ABC 7 Los Angeles.

“I didn’t want to fall. You just need to calm your mind.

He told the station that while the buildings were guarded by police, a group of friends held up religious signs as a decoy while he slipped into one of the vacant buildings and reached the top.

“The police are definitely after me, that’s why it’s very risky for me to do this interview,” he added during the interview.

“There’s a police officer right there,” Schneider said, pointing to a police vehicle. “If that cop just turns his head and looks at me, I’m in jail… With great risk comes great reward.” »

The LAPD said in a statement that it had opened an investigation into the stunt, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“This is unsafe and poses a risk to trespassers, the general public and public safety officers, including our fire department in the event of an emergency,” the ministry said.

The buildings had been under construction for years before the developer ran out of money in 2019, leaving them barren and attracting graffiti artists, the newspaper reported.
