A very common virus can be easily detected by women using their tampon.

Although 99.8% of cervical cancers are caused by persistent high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infections, nearly a third of AFAB people aged 25 to 49 have skipped their cervical smear in 2023, according to Metro United Kingdom.

The first-of-its-kind HPV testing pad has been launched by gynecological care brand Daye in a bid to solve this problem. To collect a cell sample, the swab can be inserted by users at home.

Additionally, it can then be sent — in specific packaging — to the laboratory for testing, and the results will be available within five to ten days.

For STIs, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomonas, mycoplasma and ureaplasma; the company has already released a diagnostic stamp. It tests users in the comfort and convenience of their homes. Plus, it will cost them £89.

Valentina Milanova, CEO and founder of Daye, said of the initiative: “Eliminating cervical cancer by 2040 requires a joint approach of vaccination, screening and testing, and we hope encourage more women and AFAB individuals to proactively test for HPV. »

“Using the familiar swab, this hassle-free HPV test kit is extremely easy and comfortable to use,” she added.
