The Tiktok videos of Glitchy AI interviews have become viral in recent weeks, But don’t worry if you are soon planned for a job interview.
A user, who goes through Freddie, published a video on May 3 of an AI assistant named “Catherine Appleton” Glitching and spitting charabia during his job interview. His video had 8.8 million views on Thursday.
“Should I send them an email? I expected a real human,” he wrote in legend.
Another Tiktok user named Ken shared a clip for his interview, in which the AI assistant repeated the “Pilates vertical bar” sentence on Loop.
None of the two responded to requests for comments from Business Insider.

Yes, the viral tiktoks are frightening. But that is probably not your future.
“Tiktok videos with problems or dysfunctions are probably either rare or isolated incidents,” said Sriram Iyer, principal speaker at the National University of Singapore Business School.
They “should not be considered a common phenomenon,” he added.
Tan Hong Ming, deputy chief and lecturer at the Ministry of Analysis and Operations of the Nus Business School, said that social media “tends to amplify things.”
“This can make something more common appear than it really is by rehearsal and viral sharing,” he said.
Tan, who is also a principal advisor to a Singapore -based AI recruitment company, said that the audio in a loop was “probably dramatized or reconstituted to stimulate commitment and actions”. He said he had not encountered this specific problem in AI interviews, but that occasional breakdowns are not surprising.
Many companies use recruitment tools powered by AI which are often “packaging around the same models or basic APIs”.
Some of them may not use the most recent or most stable versions, which could explain why similar problems appear on all platforms, he said.
UNAIZAH Obaidellah, a lecturer specializing in AI at the University of Malaysia in Malaysia, said that insufficient or not relevant data could also be a culprit. If the bots are not trained with sufficient relevant examples, their quality suffers from it.
She added that the incidents described on the videos could reflect the greatest race to deploy AI faster than for us, which is “worrying”.
Increasing interviews
Emily Dejeu, assistant professor at the Tepper School of Business from Carnegie Mellon University, specializing in AI communication and label, told Bi earlier this week than AI video interviews are likely to become more common while businesses were looking to rationalize and automate early job stages.
Whenever technology promises to save time and money and do everything more quickly, “we continue it by default-there is a kind of inevitability,” she said.
Despite what Tiktoks could suggest, candidates are not necessarily deactivated by bots, said Iyer, who has been working in HR Tech for 20 years.
What to do if your boot glitches interview
Problems during AI interviews are not just annoying.
“Problems burst into a trust and can make the hiring process feel impersonal or even unfair,” said Tan, especially if companies are not frank at the idea of carrying out an interview in AI.
“They undermine the candidate’s experience,” he said, adding that employers must “build solid rescue options” and monitor these tools closely in real world parameters.
“Otherwise, what looks like a time saving solution could quietly become a systemic problem,” he added.
For candidates, the key is not to panic.
If an AI bot has misunderstood mid-full, Tan recommends sending an email to the recruitment manager with a screenshot or a recording of what happened.
“Most should offer a overhaul by assuming that the candidate is not already pushed by the idea of being interviewed by a bot in the first place,” he said.
UNAIZAH, from the University of Malaysia, said candidates can also request comments from the HR team on their interview performance.
If there is clear evidence that the interview has not been properly assessed – or has not been examined by a human – ask for an interview in person, if possible, she said.
“If everything fails or if your intestinal feeling says the opposite, it may be better to search for other companies,” said UNAIZAH. “Companies target which prioritize the hiring centered on man.”
