The Big Bang Theory fans were left heartbroken over a Young Sheldon tragedy – even though we knew it was coming.

The spinoff series, centering on the formative years of Jim Parsons’ Sheldon Cooper, is coming to an end next week – a move that one of the show’s stars considers to be quite premature.

During the broadcast of Young Sheldon, viewers saw moments mentioned in The Big Bang Theory play – and a heartbreaking moment occurred in the 12th episode of the final season, which aired Thursday (May 9).

In The Big Bang Theoryit is revealed that Sheldon’s father, George Sheldon Sr (Lance Barber), died when he was 14, shortly before he left the family home to attend Caltech.

As George’s cause of death was not clarified in the main broadcast, Young Sheldon Viewers spent the entire season on the edge of their seats whenever the character was on screen because they expected him to meet his maker at any moment.

The moment finally arrived in the final episode, but it happened off-screen. Viewers only found out about George’s death when his two best friends informed the family that he had had a fatal heart attack.

Speaking about George’s death, executive producer Steve Holland said that the show’s creators always knew “internally” that George died of a heart attack, although they never “specifically” revealed this. detail on The Big Bang Theory.

Holland said Deadline that the death “was always going to happen off camera” because “we didn’t want to witness that moment of his death.

He added: “We always knew we were going to deal with his death this season, but we never thought about seeing him on camera. So the discussion was really about when this would happen in the last few episodes and how the family would receive the news.
