“You Can Thank Them For That” – Dana White Angrily Changes Stance On $100K Bonuses After UFC 304 Card Fails

Dana White wasn’t too impressed after handing out $100,000 in bonuses at UFC 304.

White had been convinced by Paddy Pimblett’s rival King Green to change the promotion’s traditional $50,000 fight bonuses to $100,000, which he duly did.

There were seven straight decisions on an overall disappointing card, including in the main event where Belal Muhammad beat Leon Edwards on points in a huge upset to win the 170-pound title.

And White furiously suggested that he would no longer follow the new system and would avoid changing rewards at the request of fighters.

He said: “I think we shouldn’t do tonight’s show. Raising them doesn’t change anything.”

“It doesn’t make anyone fight harder. It doesn’t change anything. I’ll never do that again. Ever.”

“Today was the last day I did that. I’m not saying that in the future the bonuses could not increase, but I will not be at a press conference, say, ‘200, 300’.

“Fuck, never again. You can thank everyone on this map for that. No one fought harder.”

“There was no sense of urgency. ‘Holy sh*t! I want the $100,000!'”

White had accepted the bonus increase, much as he did at UFC 300’s anniversary card earlier this year.

He notably increased the bonuses to $300,000 for that famous evening, but that did not produce more motivating performances either.

The UFC kingpin is now unlikely to increase his post-fight rewards, despite his initial reactions to criticism that fighters’ pay has been questioned.

There were several decisions made on a disappointing map, but there were indeed some remarkable performances.

British heavyweight Tom Aspinall defended his interim heavyweight title by beating Curtis Blaydes after just 60 seconds with a vicious knockout.

Paddy Pimblett also pocketed a whopping $200,000 extra after also receiving a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus for his submission win over Green, which was later doubled again.

Mick Parkin also won a prize in the preliminaries after knocking out Lukasz Brzeski in one round.

Edwards’ stunning defeat capped a great night as he was beaten by an American on home soil in Manchester.

The crowd favourite will now have to go back to the drawing board and try to come up with a revenge plan to reclaim his title.
