Yankees prefer outfielder Duke Ellis over Jasson Dominguez

The Yankees brought in an outfielder from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday, but it wasn’t Jasson Dominguez.

Instead, the team’s top prospect remained in the minor leagues when the roster was expanded to 28 before the series finale against the Cardinals in the Bronx, and the Yankees recalled Duke Ellis, a 26-year-old sprinter they claimed from the Mariners last week.

Dominguez’s stay in Triple-A comes during a season that was delayed by his recovery from Tommy John surgery.

He then suffered an oblique sprain that cost him more than a month in the minor leagues.

He was called up by the Yankees for one game in July as the team’s 27th man and had no hits and a poor play that helped cost them the game.

Dominguez, 22, has nine homers with SWB this season and can still be called up at any time and be eligible for the playoffs.

Ellis has appeared in eight major league games — all this season with the White Sox — primarily as a backup runner.

He changed sides this season, going from the White Sox to the Mets on waivers, then to Seattle.

He only played one game for Scranton before being promoted.

Additionally, the Yankees recalled right-hander Scott Effross after he returned from Tommy John surgery in 2022, as well as Ron Marinaccio.

To make room on the roster, the Yankees sent first baseman Ben Rice and right-hander Will Warren to SWB and designated left-hander Josh Maciejewski for assignment.
