Jazz Chisholm Jr. started an rehabilitation assignment with Double-A Somerset tonight. This is the first playing action player of the switch player since he supported a right oblique tension last month. Chisholm started the third goal match. He played five innings and took four appearances on the plates before being raised for a planned medium game.
Positional assignment is the most interesting aspect. Manager Aaron Boone told Yankees Beat Wednesday evening that the team was planning to use Chisholm as a third goal player once he returns from the injured list (relayed by Greg Joyce from New York Post). After today’s rehabilitation game, Chisholm said it was probably the plan (Video provided by Sny).
“”This is what I have heard so far,“He replied when he was asked if he expects to be a full -time third goal player.”(Boone) gave me the choice, but he told me that he really wanted me to the third goal. I am a team guy. I’m here to win a ring. I’m not here to fight for positions and all that.“”
Chisholm played the second base exclusively this year. He started 29 games in Keystone until April. DJ Lemahieu was on the Il during all this time. Oswaldo Cabrera Played regularly in the warm corner. Of course, the image has changed in the past few weeks. Lemahieu is back and went to the second goal. Cabrera has undergone a horrible ankle fracture that will almost end its season. Oswald Peraza And Vivas Jorbit (to a lesser extent) have covered the third goal since Cabrera’s injury.
Neither Peraza nor Vivas provided nothing offensively. Chisholm only struck. 181 before his injury, but he had connected to seven circuits while drawing walks to a strong clip of 12%. It should be a significant upgrade compared to the Peraza / Vivas pairing overall. Lemahieu was released for the start of .184 / .244 / .263 through his first 12 games. It is a good follow -up of the projection of .204 / .269 / .259 from last year, but the Yankees probably seem to give it a little more leash in the coming weeks. They apparently prefer that Lemahieu remain on the right side of the inner field while he tries to put his bat on the right track.
This is the second time that Chisholm has gone from the second to the third basis during his Yankees mandate. He took the step after the trade on the deadline for last summer. Who was in deference for Gleyber Torres (And came after the second New York base player said that he was not interested in a change of position. Chisholm made seven errors in 400 1/3 rounds during his first MLB action in the warm corner). He classified a few points below the average by saved defensive races, but Statcast allocated him four points above the peer.
This decision could also have implications for the approach of the New York deadline. Help in the field would be a logical area for the front office to target this summer – especially if Lemahieu does not pick up things. Chisholm could probably return to second row if they acquire a third basic player, but they could also seek direct upgrade to the second goal. The position was down overall, but Brandon Lowe,, Luis UrĂas and old friend Thairo Estrada (which currently rehabilitates a wrist fracture) are among the potential candidates on deadlines.
