Xavi ‘is FIRED by Barcelona’ just days after agreeing to stay on as coach… with Hansi Flick ‘set to replace the Spaniard at the La Liga giants’
Xavi has been sacked by Barcelona, according to reports.
The former midfielder made his intention to step down from his role clear earlier in the season, before making a dramatic U-turn and deciding to stay.
“I am full of energy and desire.” he declared in April after deciding to stay in charge. “We are analyzing what happened to us this year in order to improve next season. We can’t wait to get second place. I can not wait to be there.
However, he has now been fired by club president Joan Laporta, according to Marca, following a meeting with the 62-year-old after publicly criticizing the club’s financial situation.
Xavi guided Barca to a first La Liga title of his tenure last season, but struggled to replicate his domestic success this year as Real Madrid headed to the top of the table.
The club’s difficult financial situation put pressure on new signings and a difficult run of form at the start of the year convinced Xavi that he wanted to leave Barcelona.
