Xander Schauffele wins PGA Championship and first major title after holding off Bryson DeChambeau on thrilling final day at Valhalla

Xander Schauffele has won the PGA Championship after beating fellow American Bryson DeChambeau on a thrilling final day at Valhalla to claim his first major title.

DeChambeau birdied the 18th hole to take a share of the lead at 20 under par while Schauffele was on the 17th fairway.

The Tokyo Olympics champion made a par on the penultimate hole before narrowly escaping a fairway bunker with his tee shot at the 18th.

Schauffele stretched out and brilliantly hit his second just short of the green before getting up and down for a birdie that saw him win by one stroke and claim $3.5 million in prize money.

Viktor Hovland finished third with a score of 18 under.
