Elon Musk said on Tuesday that he expects Tesla and Xai will continue to buy chips from semiconductor giants Nvidia And DmlaAnd maybe others.
Musk’s artificial intelligence company, XAI, which now has X (formerly Twitter) has already installed 200,000 GPU in its Colossus installation in Memphis, the Tesla The CEO told David Faber de CNBC on Tuesday. XAI also provides for an installation of 1 million GPU outside Memphis, Musk said.
He did not specify the number of chips that the company had already ordered and on what date they can be installed.
“A few years ago, I made a very obvious prediction, namely that the limitation of AI will be tokens,” he said.
Last year, Musk ordered Nvidia to first send a large GPU order to Xai, jumping the line in front of Tesla.
In its automotive activities, Musk said that the Tesla Dojo supercomputer in Buffalo, New York is already used to form its automatic and optimus robotics systems.
Musk boasted Tuesday that the Colossus of Xai is the “most powerful training cluster in the world at the moment” with “more than 200,000 GPUS form in a coherent manner”. Musk’s choice to build in Memphis, Tennessee, was praised by city officials as transforming the region into a “high -tech manufacturing center”.
But local communities protested the functioning of energy and water, in particular how XAI relied on natural gas combustion turbines to help power the supercomputer.
Turbines emit nitrogen oxides forming SMOG (NOX), the pioneers of ozone formation, which have been associated with a higher risk of death by respiratory disease.
As CNBC previously reported, environmental defenders say XAI probably “violated the clean Act” and local permit requirements for “the main sources of air pollution” with its use of turbines.
