| Breaking News Updates | Google News

This Saturday, January 29, the road to WrestleMania begins with the Royal Rumble match. Inside the Dome of the America’s Center in St. Louis, winners will finally be announced for the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches. They both have to go through 29 other people before they can raise their hands.

As always, there is a sense of unpredictability as this event approaches. Anything is possible in the world of professional wrestling, especially at the Royal Rumble.

sports news editors Andreas Hale, Carlan Gay, Dan Yanofskyand Liam O’Loughlin joined forces to discuss storylines and offer their predictions.

How excited are you for the Royal Rumble? What are you most looking forward to?

Andreas: It’s obvious that Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns is the match for WrestleMania. How they can achieve this piqued my curiosity. Will Reigns or Lesnar give up the title at the Rumble? Will one of them enter the Royal Rumble to challenge the other for the title? There’s no way they’re not picking up on this feud, but I want to see how booking handles their story now that Lesnar is on Raw as champion.

Carl: I’m still excited for the Rumble. This is by far my favorite PPV, or premium live event, whatever they want us to call these things now. For me, the Royal Rumble is like the start of a new season in the NFL or the NBA. I feel like everyone has a new slate, and everyone is doing their best, considering WrestleMania is right around the corner. No matter what you think of the current product, I feel like the Royal Rumble is the one event every year where you can count on WWE to deliver a great night of wrestling.

Dan: This is the first time I can remember where the winner for one or the other isn’t so obvious. The unpredictability factor that comes into play makes me eager to see what will happen. WWE and Universal Title match results can determine how the Men’s Royal Rumble plays out, so I’ll be keeping an eye on those matches. I’m excited to see if WWE has a few surprises up its sleeve. Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley is a dream match in MMA or wrestling. This one will be a game to watch.

Liam: The excitement levels for this year’s Royal Rumble are incredibly high for me. After last year’s show to no fans, I can’t wait to see a big crowd fill the arena and provide plenty of noise for both Rumble matches. There’s also a huge element of unpredictability to this year’s spectacle, with two blockbuster world title matches likely to dictate who wins the men’s Royal Rumble match. Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley is a dream match I’ve been looking forward to for many years, while Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns never disappoints. With so many vacancies in both Royal Rumble matches, I’m hoping for big upsets and an exceptional show from start to finish. The Royal Rumble is my favorite event of the year, and I couldn’t be more excited.

Royal Rumble predictions: selection of male and female winners

Andreas: This is one of those years where the two Royal Rumbles don’t have a clear winner. In fact, it’s incredibly unpredictable because neither the men nor the women have built someone who has the sense to win. Bianca Belair should be the favorite to repeat in the Women’s Royal Rumble, but something tells me they’ll find another way to have her face Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship at WrestleMania. Charlotte Flair is nothing close to an opponent, which would leave Bayley, who should revert to babyface pop. It would quickly position itself in the title picture as a hybrid version of the Bayley we’ve come to love.

There is absolutely no one in the men’s Royal Rumble that makes sense to me. Lashley works with Lesnar and Rollins challenges Reigns, removing them both from the table. Big E has cooled off considerably since relinquishing the title to Lesnar and is now embroiled in a feud with Madcap Moss and Baron Corbin which likely knocks him out of the running. SmackDown doesn’t have anyone worth mentioning to challenge Reigns. The winner will therefore have to be someone from Raw. And that winner will be…

Brock Lesnar.

Considering he never had a chance against Reigns due to the match being halted by COVID on Day 1, the babyface version of Lesnar will likely kick off the Royal Rumble by beating Lashley and then slot into the Royal Rumble match. to get his shot at Reigns. This would lead to a champion vs. champion match on night two of WrestleMania. It’s a bit messy and pushes the rest of the card down, but I can’t see Vince McMahon not taking full advantage of having Lesnar at his disposal.

Carl: I think both matches have the potential to yield great results. Looks like it’s wide open for both Royal Rumbles, and you can definitely see multiple people winning it.

As for the men’s side predictions, Bobby Lashley comes in and wins after failing to beat Brock Lesnar for the title earlier in the night. If Lashley wins the Royal Rumble, that sets up a great rematch at WrestleMania and a good story of Lashley trying to prove to the world that he can indeed beat Lesnar.

On the women’s side: if Bianca Belair does not win, we revolt. After that debacle we saw at SummerSlam, we have to see this feud get its big payoff. Belair must get revenge on Lynch and do it on the big stage at WrestleMania. If that doesn’t happen, then everything that happened at SummerSlam would have been a complete, unnecessary mess.

Belair is not just a star but a superstar, and she should be treated as such. I’m all for long-term storytelling, as long as they actually follow it. Don’t let me down, WWE.

Dan: There are a lot of interesting scenarios that can take place when it comes to the men’s game. It all depends on what will happen in the WWE and Universal Championship matches. Bobby Lashley, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar can enter the Royal Rumble after their matches. I would say Lesnar would be the one to enter, even if he retains the title.

If we don’t count these men, the best bet would probably be Kevin Owens. Her relationship with Seth Rollins is something to consider. After all, you can never trust Owens as a friend (ex: Sami Zayn, Chris Jericho).

The women’s match features current and former stars. Everyone is betting on Bianca Belair to win the Royal Rumble and reclaim the title Becky Lynch took from her. While that might be the smart bet, other factors come into play. There are rumors that Ronda Rousey could be in the Royal Rumble. Should she join the action, there’s no doubt the former UFC bantamweight champion could win the match.

Liam: The men’s Royal Rumble is extremely difficult to predict. This is especially true due to the two massive world title matches that will take place.

One thing I’m sure of is that Omos will end up with the most eliminations, probably in the double digits. It will be a huge showcase for the giant. There are still plenty of open spots, so I’m expecting a good mix of returning legends, NXT call-ins, and maybe even a “forbidden door” participant or two. As for the winner, it will all depend on the Lesnar-Lashley and Reigns-Rollins matches. I’m going to take a chance and predict Kevin Owens as the winner of this year’s Royal Rumble, with a match against Seth Rollins for the Universal title at WrestleMania 38.

I feel like the women’s Royal Rumble is also very open, but there is clearly a favorite. Bianca Belair has been on TV a lot all year and has been screwed with title shots by Becky Lynch. There’s a story built in if WWE wants to go back to the pit for that one and turn Bianca into a huge star. I expect an NXT call to end with the most kills and some big comebacks to take place as well. As for the winner, I predict Belair will go back to back and headline another WrestleMania – this time against Lynch.

Can we expect to see any surprise appearances at the Royal Rumble?

Andreas: It’s Bill Goldberg season, isn’t it? With WWE returning to Saudi Arabia and WrestleMania upon us, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Goldberg show up at the Royal Rumble, and whoever knocks him out ends up working with him at WrestleMania. Who else? How about Diamond Dallas Page, Kane, Carlito, Hurricane Helms and King Booker? For women ? Hey, I don’t see much in terms of surprises outside of Trish Stratus and Jazz. Let’s reserve them.

Carl: Honestly, I don’t know what to expect. I would love to see Ronda Rousey make her return to the Royal Rumble. It’s unclear if she’s ready for it or if it will happen. I’m sure a lot of people will jump big for it.

Dan: Besides Rousey, Mickie James and Lita, there are plenty of spots available in the women’s game. Asuka could very well return, and Trish Stratus has still not been announced for the event. Depending on whether traveling is possible, we could see NXT UK star debuts. Don’t count more Impact people.

In the men’s match, X-Pac announced his return and could be very much in favor of a Royal Rumble appearance. WWE can also bring in stars they’ve released in the past: Matt Cardona, Gangrel, and former Braun Strowman.

Liam: At this time, there are still plenty of spots available in both the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches.

With the inclusion of Mickie James in the Women’s Rumble match, this has led to much speculation of a potential ‘Forbidden Door’ participant from another company making an appearance in the Men’s Rumble match. I don’t expect to see a big name from AEW like Chris Jericho or Jon Moxley, but I have a feeling we might see Matt Cardona (fka Zack Ryder) or Enzo Amore make an appearance. These names worked in many different places and would get a decent pop from the crowd.

As for a few legends in the men’s game, I think we could see X-Pac and Gangrel make an appearance. A few NXT calls to Pete Dunne and Tommaso Ciampa could also be in the picture. For the Women’s Rumble match, WWE has announced many returning legends in advance, so I’m not expecting too many familiar faces. I hope to see Raquel Gonzalez and Io Shirai join NXT. A return from injury should be expected for Asuka.
