WWE has officially acquired Lucha Libre AAA around the world. The announcement was made during the pre-show “Countdown to Wrestlemania 41”, pointing out a major change in the world wrestling landscape.
“This is something really important for us,” said Dorian Roldán Peña, Managing Director of AAA. “This is the beginning of a new chapter in the history of Lucha Libre.”
Peña thought about her family’s deep heritage behind AAA. Founded by his uncle and run for 33 years by his parents, he spoke with pride of the promotion trip. Addressing AAA’s list of talents, Peña said that the entire organization was proud to have reached this level of recognition.
Several stars of WWE and AAA have joined the announcement on stage, notably Rey Mysterio de la WWE, members of the LWO, Penta, Legado del Fantasma, Andrade, Stephanie Vaquer and the Hijo del Vikingo de l’Aaa, and the president of the company Maselela Peña Herrada, highlighting the international unit.
The director of WWE content, Paul “Triple H”, Levesque expressed deep respect for the inheritance AAA and the cultural power of Lucha Libre. “The impact of Lucha Libre – the cultural impact he has resonates through generations and cannot be overestimated,” said Levesque. “We seek to deepen this tradition.”
Levesque also confirmed that the return of Worlds Collide, a cross event featuring NXT, scheduled for June 7 at the Los Angeles Forum. Originally organized by WCW in the early 1990s, the event helped present Lucha Libre to a world audience.
