WTF?! Bridgerton fans FURIOUS over disgusting article about body-shaming Nicola Coughlan!

The last season of The Bridgerton Chronicles is upon us, with the first four episodes now streaming and the second half due on Netflix in June.

The central love story of this season takes place between Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, played by Nicholas Coughlan And Luke Newton. This is something fans have wanted and waited for since the beginning of the series…so why the hell is it being treated as controversial?! Because, according to some seriously deficient people, Nicola just isn’t pretty enough to be a romantic lead.

We wish this was a fan/social media overreaction to an offhand comment. This is not the case. Someone has The spectator I actually thought it would be a good idea to explain why the show made a huge mistake by casting her because she’s “not sexy.” That would already be the craziest stupidity since that Slate insistent reflection piece Sydney SweeneyThe breasts are not big. (Yes, it’s real.) But it’s worse than that.

On the same subject: Nicola talks about going naked in our quote of the day!

This writer felt the need to specifically attack her body shape, explaining with all his supposed pop culture acuity why a “fat” woman doesn’t work as a credible protagonist in a romantic plot. Yes really!

In Friday’s essay titled Bridgerton’s Great Fantasy (haha, did you understand? ugh), author Zoe Strimpel says she enjoys looking at Nicola’s “expressive face” and compliments her on her role in the series. And then things go so wrong…

“But reader, she’s not sexy, and there’s no escaping it, as I was reminded recently when she graced the cover of Harper’s Bazaar in a fabulous outfit that still didn’t didn’t change his unsexy side.”

We mean…Is she serious here???

We know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but… WTF?? Zoe continues:

“Coughlan is a fine actress and could be adored, but she is simply not plausible as a friend who would thus attract the attention of the handsome and wealthy aristocrat Colin Bridgerton. She’s not well-made – which can be so sexy even in Hollywood; She is big.”

Wow. What year does it end? The spectator? This writer clearly thinks viewers will simply dismiss the series without a thin person in the lead. (Something we wondered if anyone in Netflix’s marketing department agreed with…) She concluded:

“There’s nothing wrong with being fat – it’s not really a moral failing – but a taste for equality and diversity (and in this case, good acting) isn’t enough simply cannot make a fat girl winning over the prince plausible. In the cruel visual semantics of the screen, poor plump Penelope is perhaps set up to conquer her man, but will she succeed in conquering her audience? The jury, dear reader, is out.

BTW, dear reader, the jury is out In. Not only is it The Bridgerton Chronicles back at the top of the audience, demolishing the competition with 25.3 million views for season 3 in the first week alone, 2nd place in the audience tells a different story! The second most watched show last week was The Bridgerton Chronicles Season 1, with 6.4 million views! This means that the new season is SO popular that it has attracted new fans who come back and love the rest of the series! Another thing Zoé is completely wrong about…

You can read the entire post HERE if you wish.

Frankly, we’re a little horrified. Not only could someone be so misguided, we mean… Lots of people have trashy opinions. But someone approved this copy! Someone read this and said: Yeah, that’s not a horrible thing to post at all! This is despite Nicola explicitly asking fans not to comment on her body.

Speaking of fans, The Bridgerton Chronicles viewers of all stripes gathered in their apoplectic rage reading this bullshit. Here’s a small – and we mean small – sample of the overwhelming response:

“The Spectator is a vile Tory rag who can make a mess and should be shot in the sun, Nicola Coughlan is undeniably great and a great actress, these fatphobic bulls can really make one.”

“Just read the Spectator article Zoe Strimpel wrote about our own Nicola Coughlan. Horrible stuff. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it was written by a woman. »

“I know I should never be surprised by the vile misogyny published by the Spectator, but damn, their take on #Bridgerton and #Polin is truly horrible. The idea that Nicola Coughlan isn’t stunning is a) madness, and b) irrelevant to the plot. »

“The @spectator’s personal attack on Nicola Coughlan is unwarranted and unnecessary. Criticizing her appearance instead of her performance is disgusting and uncalled for. Someone tell Zoe Strimpel that it’s 2024 and the “fat girl” CAN bag the prince.

“Zoe Strimpel, you should be ASHAMED of what you wrote in the Spectator about Nicola Coughlan. How dare you speak like that about another human being? This article should never have been published. Disgusting. Zoe, get help for your fatphobia. And to the viewer, DO BETTER! »

“This Spectator article about Nicola is one of the most vile things I have read in ages. Firstly, this girl is a ray of sunshine and secondly, it doesn’t matter, but she’s a size 12/14 at MOST. Me, in size 24, I read how “fat” bodies are unsexy and undesirable. I felt good.

“That Zoe Strimpel article in the Spectator about Nicola Coughlan being ‘not sexy’ is exactly the kind of brainwashing, bro, pick me, homogenized beauty standards bullshit that new romance loves to do a snub. Nicola is also STUNNING. Not being able to see is all the proof.

What do you think of this publication publishing such a cruel article? Was it just for attention? Hate clicks? Or do they really think so little of those who don’t fit into these traditional TV shapes and sizes?
