Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh on Tuesday confirmed that no trials will be held for the 2024 Paris Olympics and the wrestlers who won the quota will represent India at the Olympic Games. summer. The WFI had a long-standing policy of sending quota winners to the Olympics, but this policy was changed in 2021 under Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The idea behind this policy change was to ensure that the country sends its best, fit wrestlers to the Olympics.

But the federation has now decided to reverse its policy.

The latest decision also comes after some of the quota winners asked WFI not to hold trials so close to the Olympics which begins on July 26.

WFI director Sanjay said the decision not to hold trials would benefit the quota winners and allow them to focus on the Olympics.

“Everyone decided that whoever gets the quota will represent India in the Olympics,” Sanjay Singh told the news agency. ANI. “Players will now feel relieved and can concentrate. We will help them by providing the best training facilities abroad, in consultation with the coaches,” he said.

WFI’s decision also means that there will be no trial between Vinesh Phogat and Antim Panghal for the 53kg category. The 53kg category is Vinesh’s favorite class, but Antim won this quota with a bronze medal at the World Championships last year. Later, Vinesh won the 50kg quota at the Asian Olympic qualifiers in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, last month by cutting weight.
