Wrestlers Deepak Punia, Antim Panghal chose for the Asian championships after the sports ministry has raised WFI BAN – FIRSTPOST

The medalists of the Deepak World Championships Punia and Antim Panghal were among the 30 Indian wrestlers appointed on Saturday for the senior Asian championships which are held in Amman, Jordan, from March 25 to 30.

The selection trials were supervised by the India Federation of the Federation of the Federation of India (WFI), including President Sanjay Singh, the vice-president Jai Prakash, the treasurer SP Deshwal and the Olympic medal Yogeshwar Dutt.

It was the first selection trial held under the responsibility of the WFI since its ban was recently revoked by the Ministry of Sports.

Ten wrestlers were each chosen in male freestyle and Greco-Romain, as well as in the categories of women during selection tests.

Punia, which won money in the 2019 world championship and gold in 2022 Games from the Commonwealth, however increased from 86 kg to 92 kg while Vishal Kaliraman also pushed 65 kg to 70 kg. Panghal (53 kg) and Reetika (86 kg) were waiting to win their tests.

The WFI said that it has extended the invitation to the best wrestlers from across the country to participate in the tests “ensuring a highly competitive and transparent selection process”.

“However, some notable wrestlers, including (medalist at the Paris Olympic Games) Aman Sehrawat, could not participate due to injuries,” said WFI.

Selected wrestlers:

Male freestyle: Chirag (57 kg), Udit (61 kg), Sujit (65 kg), Vishal Kaliaman (70kg), Jaideep (74kg), Chandermohan (79kg), Mukul Dahiya (86kg), Deepak Punia (92kg), Jointy Kumar (97kg).

Greco-Roman for men: Nitin (55 kg), Sumit (60 kg), Umesh (63 kg), Neeraj (67kg), Kuldeep Malik (72 kg), Sagar (77kg), Rahul (82kg), Sunil Kumar (87kg), Nitestesh (97kg) and Prém (130kg).

Women’s struggle: Ankush (50kg), Antim (53 kg), Nishu (55 kg), Neha Sharma (57 kg), Muskan (59kg), Manisha (62kg), Monika (65kg), Mansi Lathar (68kg), Jyoti Berwal (72kg) and Reetika (76kg).
