Diontae Johnson’s time with the Houston Texans is over as the wide receiver was waived on Tuesday.
“Unfortunately, it didn’t work out,” Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said. “We’re on the Chiefs.”
Johnson, who was claimed off waivers by the Baltimore Ravens on Dec. 26, played in one regular season game and one playoff game for the Texans. He recorded three receptions for 24 yards in those two games.
The Texans were Johnson’s third team this season after starting the year with the Carolina Panthers before being traded to the Ravens on October 29. He played in seven regular season games with the Panthers and four with the Ravens before landing with the Texans after Tank Dell’s season. -end the injury.
Johnson, 28, was acquired by Baltimore to bolster its receiver depth, but was then suspended one game for refusing to play in the game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 13. He never played again played for the Ravens after being waived on December 20.
Johnson played 16 snaps, according to Football Guys, in the Texans’ 32-12 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Houston will face the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round on Saturday (4:30 p.m. ET; ABC).
Johnson entered this season in the final year of his contract, but once he clears waivers he will become an unrestricted free agent.
