Astana, Kazakhstan: Reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen recorded a sensational 5-0 victory over Kazakhstan’s Tomiris Myrzakul to advance to the women’s 52kg final of the 2024 Elorda Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan, on Thursday.

Besides Nikhat, Minakshi (48 kg), Anamika (50 kg) and Manisha (60 kg) also made their way comfortably to the final.

Minakshi and Manisha put up similar performances in the semi-finals to claim a unanimous 5-0 victory over Kazakh boxers Gulnaz Buribayeva and Tangatar Assem respectively.

Anamika, on the other hand, was declared victorious after her opponent, Kazakh Gulnar Turapbay, was disqualified for excessive holding after three warnings.

Meanwhile, Sonu (63 kg) and Manju Bamboriya (66 kg) ended their campaign with bronze medals after suffering contrasting defeats in their last 4 encounters.

Sonu fought valiantly against Uzbekistan’s Zieda Yarasheva but ended up losing with a score of 2-3 while Manju Bamboriya faced a tough 0-5 defeat against China’s Liu Yang.

Shalakha Singh Sansanwal (70kg) and Monika (81+kg) will play their semi-finals later today.

Four Indian pugilists Yaiphaba Singh Soibam (48 kg), Abhishek Yadav (67 kg), Vishal (86 kg) and Gaurav Chauhan (92+ kg) will contest their semi-final bouts on Friday.

The finals will be played on Saturday.
