A woman was stabbed outside a busy primary school as parents ushered their children through the doors.

Bedfordshire Police have confirmed that a victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries following an attack near a school in Dunstable Road, Luton, shortly after 8.30am this morning.

A man was arrested and is in police custody. Police officers stood guard outside a tent covering the scene of the stabbing attack. A forensic team was also on site.

All children are believed to be safe at the school, which law enforcement has not named, but officers are expected to remain in the area for reassurance.

One said: “It’s terrible. I have never seen so many police officers. I hope the woman recovers. At least no children were hurt.

A neighbor living next to the scene of the assault, at flats in Beech Hill Court, said she left for work at 7am and returned home to find the police cordon in place.

“I’m shocked, it’s just horrible,” she said.

“Following the incident, the school was closed for approximately an hour, purely as a precaution, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children and staff.
