Woman rescued from ocean floor after diving from Oceanside pier

Oceanside lifeguards rescued a woman from the ocean after she ran off the end of the town’s pier on Tuesday morning, a police spokesperson said.

Witnesses called 911 shortly before 11 a.m., reporting that they saw a woman jump into the water and fail to surface, Oceanside Police spokeswoman Jennifer Atenza said.

Rescuers responded from the pier and found the woman on the ocean floor, Oceanside Battalion Chief Wes McGee said.

They pulled her to the surface, where a harbor police boat brought them back on board. She was out of the water about 10 minutes after crews were dispatched to the scene

Rescuers administered lifesaving measures as they took him ashore and then to a local hospital for treatment.

Atenza said the woman was alive, but she did not know her condition.
