The Los Angeles County medical examiner on Friday identified a woman whose body was discovered this week in a trash bin in Sunland.
The woman was identified as 32-year-old Heather Hass. The cause of death has not been released.
Her body was discovered Tuesday morning in the 8500 block of Wentworth Street after officers responded to a call from a resident, according to Los Angeles police. When the police arrived, they discovered the body in the trash can.
Helicopter video from KTLA-TV at the time of the discovery showed police investigating near a closed black trash can on a neighborhood sidewalk.
Sunland resident William Elliot told KNBC-TV that someone dumped the trash on his property. He said he moved the trash can onto the street without knowing what was in it, but called the police when something seemed wrong.
“It smells bad and it was attached and very suspicious that the serial number was scratched off on it,” Elliot told the station.
